  Crow   Bente completed her PhD on the Madrid Skylitzes manuscript (Bib.vitr. 26-2) in 2002 at QUB. She continues to work on the Skylitzes manuscript, creating a database of the iconography and style of the images and researching the codicological aspects of the manuscript. Bente also works on spectacle in Byzantium with particular focus on how such events were perceived and portrayed.

In her role as AHRB Centre Research Fellow in Byzantine Art, Bente teaches undergraduates and postgraduates both at the Institute of Byzantine Studies and at the University of Sussex, one of the other constituent members of the Centre.
